Cut new cord that is equal length to, or longer than, the old cord. Longer cord will give you more room to work.
Thread the new cord into a long, thick needle and work it through the hole from the bottom of the closed shades to the top. Add the washer to the bottom of the cord and use a double knot to secure it in place.
Run the cords over the top of the shades so the ends are aiming toward the cord lock.
Feed the cord through the cord lock hole from the back of the shades.

Put the top joiner ball and washer back onto the cords, tie a knot in the end of the cords and trim any excess length.
Closed the joiner ball by screwing the bottom half of the ball to the top half.
Hang the shade back up by putting the front of the shade into the front bracket and pushing the bracket up and back until it clicks into position.
